Founding member of Pink Floyd dies

Richard Wright, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, has died today following a struggle with cancer. He was 65.
Wright was the band's long-term keyboard player, as well as a songwriting contributor to classic albums such as Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. He also mastered a wide range of instruments including the synthesiser and Farfisa organ, during the many years of Pink Floyd's career.
The band formed in the mid-60s, during which time Wright performed as a vocalist on many of the their songs. However, his preoccupation later on was with experimental compositions, a credit to the many instruments he played.
Wright released a solo record in 1978 called Wet Dream and went on to form pop group Zee in the 1980s, though, perhaps unsurprisingly, neither were quite as successful as his original band.
Wright performed with the surviving members of Pink Floyd in 2005 for Live 8.
Fellow founding member Syd Barrett died of pancreatic cancer in July

Another great of musical history leaves us We should consider ourselves lucky to have so much of his art left to enjoy for years to come. I can only wish that I could have seen them live!

I've had countless arguments over the years of 'who's the greatest rock band of all time' and it's always been between Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. The argument will rage for years to come

    RIP Richard. And thanks

yep, i agree ith between pink floyd & led zeppelin you can argue for ages. they are both truly number ones.

On the other hand it is quite sad that rick Wright has passed away.

I rate Pink Floyd quite a bit higher than Led Zeppelin even though I appreciate them very much too.

I've been lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live, also Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and most of the popular rock bands from these days and the Pink FLoyd concert was by far the greatest!

    Cool The Pompei version to...

    Echoes... what a Huge song!!

Overall, I would say Floyd over Zep... for your debate SaltySurprise
But then again what a pleasure to listen to both and the vocals of Plant cannot be matched.

I only saw Roger Waters, not the complete Floyd deal but he blew my mind away...

Best album ever : The Wall.
    God bless the 70'

Live @ Pompeii is just pure masterpiece. Echoes really stands out for me, but any of the songs from it are amazing to see. I think most of us over 30 have seen the movie. Those who haven't, but listen to Pink, really should watch it
