    Music and driving

Do you think the type of music you listen to when driving affect your behavior on the road? I notice that if I listen to heavy metal when driving, I tend to speed and be easily agitated by other drivers. I don't know if it's just me or not.

For me it doesn't now but when I was younger I seemed to think it did (so did my parents). I am not really sure if there is any statistics on it though, would be interesting to see.

I don't think it affects my driving. I do find myself driving with the radio off more often or turned down low. Oh no, does this mean I am officially getting older? I promise not to drive slowly in the left lane...

I use to listen to music really loud when I was driving. Now, I look for it to be quiet in the car. Maybe it does mean we are getting old.

I agree with you; more fast-paced music causes me to want to match my driving mood to the music. Fortunately, I try more often to listen to slower-paced music to keep myself and my driving more mellow.

I'm not sure how music affects my mood in driving. I often listen to soothing music or instrumental music while driving. I also listen to rock and metal but not when I'm driving.

No the type of music does not affect how I drive. The type of music I listen to when I drive is determined by my mood, therefore if I am angry I put on heavy metal, if I am in a good mood I put on something upbeat. The only thing that affects my driving is the other people on the road and how they act.

That's interesting. So you always choose the type of music you are listening to based on your current mood? How does your chosen music affects your mood? I mean, when you are angry, does listening to heavy metal music ease or trigger your anger?

I am like Dale. The music I listen to depends on the mood I have. When I'm irritated, I listen to rock music for me to release all my anger. After that, I will gradually change to a more mellow music when I am already calm.
