    Bill Davis Racing Sold

Well, Bill Davis has sold his racing team to Marty Gaunt and Michael Held. Gaunt is a co-owner of Triad Racing Technologies which supplies engines, chassis, and bodies to NASCAR. The details of the racing team such as the #22 car driven by Dave Blaney will be forthcoming. Be interesting if there is a name change.

Here is a full article clip about it..

Bill Davis Sells Team: UPDATE Triad Racing Technologies announced that the company will acquire Triad Racing Development, a major supplier of engines, chassis and bodies for NASCAR Camping World, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series teams. In addition to the acquisition of Triad Racing Development, the owners also purchased a majority interest in Bill Davis Racing. "This is an exciting time for us," said Marty Gaunt, co-owner of TRT. "With the changing economic landscape, we see this as an opportunity to service existing Toyota teams and build the business by providing cost effective engine support and chassis production to all racing teams regardless of manufacturer association." Gaunt along with business partner, Michael Held, entered into the agreement to purchase Triad this week.
With more than 40 years combined motorsports experience, Gaunt and Held will provide management of the company effective immediately. Gaunt and Held both return to the ownership role, having spent time as NASCAR team owners. A California businessman, Held also owns Co-Pilott, LLC, a marketing company that services a number of clients in the motorsports arena. An announcement regarding the Bill Davis Racing Sprint Cup and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series operations, as well as detailed team plans for the 2009 race season, will be made in the coming weeks.(Triad/Co-Pilott PR)(12-22-2008)

UPDATE: New Bill Davis Racing majority owners Marty Gaunt and Mike Held say they hope to have the #22 Sprint Cup car on the track in 2009 but likely won?t be able to announce firm plans for another few weeks. Gaunt [said] that Mark Chambers will remain as general manager with other leadership positions at BDR to be determined in the next few weeks. Bill Davis will be available as a consultant, Gaunt indicated.

Yes the economy had a play in it since he has been unable to secure full-time sponsorship for his team for 2009 but I also think this move was a personal one as well. He was ready to move on.

Right now in terms of stability IndyCar is much more stable than NASCAR. Be interested to see who gets what.

I wonder, will this increase or decrease Villeneuve's chance of getting a ride in NASCAR

Lizard, I know you like Villeneuve but if a driver like Allmendinger hasnt been signed yet, Villeneuve in my opinion has no chance at a full-time ride in the sprint cup.

Allmendinger is the more deserving I'll admit that. It is quite unfortunate how he is suddenly left without a ride and worse is that ride went to whinner Speed.

But I still I cling to the hope that I'll see Carpentier and Villeneuve in NASCAR in 2009. GEM still has the possibility of fielding a 4th car, Boston Ventures is completely open, and Furnature Row is open. But those ride could go to anyone as well
