Jeremy Mayfield - Hot Air or Victim?

What's your take on the Jeremy Mayfield affair? Is he guilty as sin or has NASCAR done what he claims, using him to be the example to keep the other boys in line?

I really do not know what to think about Jeremy Mayfield. If he has tested positive for drugs then he certainly should not be on the race track. The race track is not the place for anyone under the influence of anything, not even cold medicine. There are too many people that could be hurt!

Well most places do always need a scape goat, but methamphetamines? Do you really think Nascar planted that in his test or was there a mix up at the lab? Never really heard of someone not failing a pee test unless its a totally made up lie of an answer.

I don't know about this one seems like a driver wouldn't make a mistake like that. I mean they know they are going to be tested right?

Speedqueen, until the Mayfield incident, testing was always an option but it was rarely done. There was an incident with a couple of other drivers in the last few years, so they stepped it up a little. Since Mayfield, at the behest actually of the big name regular drivers, they've increased testing. I beleive they now randomly test 3 drivers/crew members every week. Mayfield has sold his team and is continuing to contest in court. He'll never race again, but he's gonna try to get some millions out of NASCAR before he fades into nothingness. He actually has an interesting history. He's the one who spilled the beans on his former car owner, Ray Everham, telling everyone that Ray was having an affair with driver Erin Crocker. That ended her career. Of course, she and Ray are married now.

Well have you seen how many baseball players have been busted for Steroids? They know they will be tested too. Same thing with Olympic atheletes, I forget which runner lost his medals because he tested positive. They think they won't be caught.

I think that if he used meth, it was definitely a problem. Would Nascar really plant the drugs so that he could be a scapegoat? I wonder what he'd need the meth for-- does the speed from the racing not do it for him?

While I get what you are saying here, I have to admit, I laughed at that. What does selling his team do to help his case at all? Walk the walk, talk the talk and do the time if you do the crime.

The last thing I want to think about next time at a race is some jerk behind the wheel on speed driving at how fast near me?

What a moron. I don't understand why the sports celebrities feel a need to use meth or steroids. He absolutely should have to pay for his choices. I agree with you creg, who wants to worry about driving along with someone who's on speed?
