    Qualifying - rainouts

Once again, Qualifying was a rain out. It seems like over the last couple of years that almost one-third of the qualifying is rained out. I think NASCAR needs to allow a backup time. I get tired of seeing the points leader getting a free pass because of rain.

I agree with this. It's time they do something else to make it fair for everyone. They should schedule them ahead of time so that if it is raining, they can do it the next day. I understand that they cannot push the race back, so they should start qualifying sooner.

I agree with that! There needs to some way to make this more fair to everyone. I know Nascar can't control the weather but a little forward thinking is in order here.

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone in this thinking. I know a lot of tracks have other races and activities that we don't see, but I'm still convinced that they could do something to at least have one fallback on the books before going to points order.

Do you want them to have makeup days like we all had when we were back in school for snow days?

I do get what you are saying, but what happens when they extend it and then randomly mother nature takes her course again.

No, but one backup isn't unreasonable. So -- have the scheduled, have a backup, and then if it still rains, fine, go by points. It's just that they've had an increasing number of rainouts, and that is very frustrating, unless you're the points leader.

I think one scheduled backup day for qualifying is very reasonable. You would think that NASCAR would have provided that by now. In fact, you would think the drivers would be petitioning for it.

I am not saying make up days is a bad thing, but at the same time with an already hectic schedule each year - how are they going to figure out how many days is appropriate?

Since I'm still new to this all, sorry if this is a stupid question-- but couldn't they just start the season a bit earlier in the year? Would that make it so that the qualifying races didn't have as great of a chance of raining out? (Thought I'd post here before talking to my guy)

I think qualifying 1 day earlier each week would work. That way if there is a rain delay they could do it the next day. I don't think they should hold up the races. Too many fans take time off from work and plan their trips to see the races. 1 day isn't asking too much.
