    Haiti relief

I was really glad to read about the various NASCAR efforts to help with the Haiti tragedy. Rick Hendrick has lent his planes and his crews have volunteered to help. Hendrick has a couple of really nice planes, too. I know the military has used at least one of them.

Unrelated to NASCAR, but Ted Turner has also lent his plane. It actually picked up a little girl to bring her back to her adoptive family.

It in alway inspiring to see the way everyone from all walks of life pull together in times of tragedy. People, rich and poor alike, are doing what they can, rather big or small, to help the people of Haiti.

The Hendrick's crew has made several trips to Haiti. ESPN online had an article today in which pilot Jim Hendrick spoke about what it is like in Haiti and the different missions they have accomplished. You can read it at NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick wasted little time gearing up to aid relief efforts in Haiti - ESPN.

That is a nice "feel-good" story. I love to read about people that can help that do help. I understand that "rich" people can't help everyone or every tragedy, but this is just nice.

Have you heard if any of the other owners, drivers, etc. have helped at all?

I like to think that successful people who are making much more than they need to live comfortably are always looking for ways to help those who aren't; times like these are the perfect opportunity for them to shine!

I just hope that the relief will continue. Things in New Orleans are still unsettled, years later. Things where the tsunamis have occurred still are faltering. I just hope that people understand Haiti will need years to recover, and stay plugged in to providing aid.

You are so right, speedydemon. People seem to forget so easily. They get wrapped up in their own lives. The newness wears off. Another disaster occurs and we forget that areas like New Orleans and Somalia and others still are not fully recovered and can still use help.

I haven't heard the specifics of what other teams have done, but Speed did a special to talk about it. Apparently, they've done a lot, but I don't know who has done what. I do know that Hendrick is pretty much donating those planes for as long as needed. The man has a huge heart.
