I heard this morning that with the new drafting rules, the cars need to have smaller spoilers on them. Has anyone heard anything about this? Is it Nascar mandated or are the owners just doing it to help with drafting?

I don't think they do it just for drafting, but it's going to take some work now to maximize the effect of the spoilers with a smaller size. Taking that bit of weight off will be nice, but I'm sure they were already optimized to have the biggest possible size while still reaping a benefit to speed.
It's to enhance racing and it is mandated by NASCAR. The drivers want to be able to handle their cars better and this is one way to make that happen.
So it is mandated by NASCAR, that is interesting. Is it a new mandate? I know I need to look it up and get some more information on this one.
A smaller spoiler would mean a quicker car I would think.
Some drift is good but not a ton of it when you think of how these folks are racing. Yep its a new thing but honestly I would love if they could pass a law for some of the nuts I see driving around looking really off the wall.
With the changes in the rules this season, I'm sure there will be a lot more accidents (hopefully not too bad). I can't wait to see what the new cars look like (with smaller spoilers). I wouldn't want to be out there and drifting and the speeds they go!
I wonder if they're going to be sacrificing a little speed for the better handling, though. I admire that, though, given NASCAR's recent penchant for encouraging dangerous driving - it's nice to have a focus on handing coming from them.
If they are making the spoilers be smaller, isn't that going to increase their speed? The cars won't have the larger spoilers on them to slow them down.
