How much do the cars cost?

I was just curious as to how much the NASCAR cars cost? I would assume they cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. But can anyone name an exact or almost exact price for most of them?

Just the chassis? Or the engine? They do everything separately these days. I'm not sure. For the complete package, probably $150,000. That's my best guess.

Oh wow, I would have thought they cost much more. How much does the Chassi cost? I'm sure that's gotta be pretty expensive alone...And how much would the engine cost?

I'm not really sure, but I watched the Barrett Jackson auctions a couple of times when Rick Hendrick auctioned off some of Jeff's cars and it seems like they got 200 or 300 thousands and thought that was great.

$150,000 is more than I would want to spend on a car that would probably get wrecked but that is still way less than I thought they would be!

That explains why they are so upset when a car they just brought out to the track gets crashed. One would think that a good quality car could be built for less money than that, but I am sure they are highly insured in case they do get totaled quickly.

I have no idea. I would think the bulk of the money would be tied up in the engine. And the body is just minimal compared to the engine. But I'm not a specialist! lol

    NASCAR Jobs

*From the ground up, including the engine, a race-ready Nextel Cup car costs about $125,000 to build

When it comes to NASCAR jobs, where does all that fuel, err, money go? Msn.foxsports.com crunched the numbers for a mid-level standard two-car team. "For big name driving teams, multiply these numbers by one and a half or more":
    • Drivers' salaries: see above
    • Team salaries: $2.5-3.5 million, or an average salary of ~$30,000/year for ~100 employees
    • Travel: $1 million per team
    • Tires: $1 million per team ($20,000 per race weekend plus testing)
    • In-house engine program: $3.5 million+
    • Cars: $1-3 million per team
