    FIA Formula 2

FIA is planning to launch the "resurrected" F2 series in May next year. The season will consist 10 rounds and it's likely that the new series will run alongside WTCC at some events, perhaps with the Le Mans Series or DTM and there will also probably be a number of stand-alone F2 events in the course of the year.

The design of the car is being done by Williams F1 and will have all the safety regulations that were used for F1 cars in 2005. They will have ground-effect aerodynamics and Audi 1.8 litre turbo engines which produce between 400 and 500 horsepower. Also they will feature a power boost button to help overtaking.

FIA's plans to keep the costs for running a car as low as 200.000 euros has made GP2 bosses nervous. Rumours say that drivers such as Adam Carroll, Marko Asmer, Oliver Jarvis and Alx Danielsson with few others are very interested to join the series.

Race format for the series would have one hour practice and one hour qualifying on saturday and a 175km race on sunday.

This looks like a place where the FIA is going to try possible F1 regulation changes. IE the return of ground effects and turbos.

2006 UK Formula Renault champion and 2007 and 2008 British F3 race winner Sebastian Hohenthal became the seventh confirmed driver.

This is shaping up to be a strong line-up.

The Formula 2 grid for 2009 is now complete. But no US drivers.

    Not even Alexander Rossi.
