    Electric Car Racing Series?

With electric sports cars out there like the Tesla Roadster, Venturi Fetish, T-Rex Silence, Wrightspeed X1, etc is there a electric car racing league?

Even with electric sedans being used as an electric touring car series?

    Also prompt:

If i was a racing fan, I would come to the racetrack anyway regardless of whether or not the car makes a loud sound. I would be there for the racing, for the drama on and off track, for seeing the cars flex their muscles and for watching the race first hand. That in itself to me is much more important than the sound of an combustion engine. Yes, I do like the sound of an combustion engine. I actually love the might roar that permeates the entire race track. But I'd gladly trade the might roar for the graceful hiss if the electric car can provide better drama and racing.
I was not exactly well received with these comments, but I seriously dont understand race fan's hatred of electric cars.

    Why not?

They race pickup trucks, large trucks, even lawnmowers and barstools, anything with an engine, so why not cars with an electric motor? And I don't mean scaled down remotely controlled ones. For the purist in us, they could add a class with audio equipment playing the sound of a roaring engine. Although I suspect the whine of the motor and gears, plus the squealing of the tires would be plenty loud, just a different kind of loud.
Put me down as one who'd love to see electric car races, pit stop for fuel would mean replacing the batteries, would love to see that being done in under 10 seconds.

I saw an interview on 60 minutes where GMs CEO said that they would an engine sounding include a CD with their new volt car.

I saw a story where a team is drag racing an electric motorcycle, it's got a two stage electric motor, and while they weren't winning any races they were turning descent times!
