You have all got quite interesting stories... by the way, Do you still race now?
Most people run 2 series in Ontario. Club racing and the Ontario championship (which I believe is now called the Sunoco Ron Fellows Championship). Club racing is a series at one track, usually the one closest to where you live. The Ontario series travels around Ontario with races hosted by each club, as well as special races, such as the Barrie Grand Prix, where karts race on city streets like Monaco or Long Beach.
Club racing is cheaper, but the Ontario series is more competitive and challenging.
Running both series can be done on a budget of about $3000-4000, but you likely won't be competitive. To field a competitive Kart you're looking at spending over $10,000.
Yup thats alot of cash. I mean how do ppl even afford it unless their dad is rich. Can u even get sponsors in a small series like that? There must be a ton of talent that just never gets developed because ppl cant afford it, pretty sad.
You can get local sponsors such as local newpapers, radio stations, convenience stores, etc. Also if you drive well the local dealer of the type of kart you race may help you, with funding and experience. For example if you race a Birel kart the local Birel dealer will help you out, maybe even ask to join their works team.
That's exactly how I felt about my own racing career. There must be a ton of talent that just never gets developed because ppl cant afford it, pretty sad.
