    When do you "give up"?

My brother's been working on a car for a couple of years now, modding and tuning and constantly running into new problems to solve along the way. Now he's stuck with a transmission problem he can't seem to fix, and is considering just selling the car for as much as he can and giving up. Have you ever reached that point? Did you give up?

Fortunately, I haven't experienced something like that in my life before. There are times when everything is hopeless but I have a principle that I can do anything with the help of God.

I think your brother just needs more encouragement to push through his project.

I think your brother has made the right decision. There is no point to stick with a project you won't practically complete. I have never experienced such a situation but my friend has. The difference is that he refused to give up and made even more problems on his car.

I think there are several factors that need to play into his decision. Is he working on this car for practical purposes, or did he take it on as a challenge? Does he have the time and money to keep investing in this car? It sounds like he's already put a bunch of time and effort into the car, I think he should take a break before he gives up on it completely.

There is a fine line about knowing when to go on and when to throw in the towel, unfortunately most of us haven't always been able to figure out where that line is and sometime find yourself on the wrong side of it.
Despite my 60th decade on this planet, this line is still sometime blurry, maybe I need better glasses.

If the car is a collector's item, and the time spent fixing it is therapeutic, it may be worthwhile.

But ultimately it would be great to have a functional vehicle without taking out another mortgage.
