    Question Old injuries

I know we have some drivers here from the past and I am wondering if any can help with this. I have some old injuries (not racing related but nearly just as bad). When do you know you will have certain pains for life and if there is anything that can be done about it (I am thinking nerve damage but its not confirmed with a doctor).

I think the first thing that you need to do is see a doctor and get some tests done. Maybe a scan will show something that can be fixed that will ease the pain. Also, a doctor might recommend and refer you for physical therapy. Sometimes strengthening supporting muscles can ease the pain in the affected area.

Sage advice, I'm paying now for some of my youthful foolishness, I never got seriously hurt in a motor vehicle, same cannot be said in some 20 years of playing Ice Hockey.

Yea hockey would do that to you, I was a skater for myself no hockey I can not balance that well. And yes I have seen a doctor, but I am talking about things that are either fully healed (which after this many years, its as healed as it will get) or what other options are there, early old pain? After almost 2 years of physical therapy (out patient) I am pretty sure that is my only option left (an MRI).

Have you tried massage therapy, or ultrasound therapy? Sometimes the PT offices will do that for you and it is very helpful. With my back injuries, losing weight also helped a lot. I had some nerve damage in my legs, and I just try to really take care of myself right now (sleep, exercise, etc)

I think this is the unspoken almost hushed up part of all sports, the toll taken on the athletes. They are just now talking about brain damage to football players, for example, but the problem is that no one will pay attention.

I definitely suggest going to a doctor and seeing what your options are. You never know what they can do for you until you ask. Neurologists can do some amazing work and healing nowadays!
