    Picks for Australia 2007

I figured I would kick start the Australia talk.

I think there are two strategies for the first few races of the season. The "Go for gold" strategy and the "Play it safe" strategy.

Going for gold is easy. Take the best driver/car combo you can guess and spend the cash. Knowing what F1 is like, this could reap huge rewards or leave you with little points that cost you 60 million.

I think I may favour the play it safe strategy. I'm thinking a middle of the pack driver(DC?) and a real cheap newcomer(Kovalainen?).
This will leave enough room for a stab at a top team chassis and pretty good engine.
Or maybe a pricey driver and a middle of the pack chassis? So many options!
At leas I can feel better about this all getting much easier once all the teams have worked out their kinks.

    Cheers

    Talking Race picks

Last season I went all out and spent the big $$$. This season there is a bigger challenge with all the driver changes and budget. Should make it nice and interesting. I'm thinking some of the lesser known guys could turn out to be some good picks but also risky. I'm going to have to look over last seasons mid-pack guys to figure out who I think will shine early. Still gonna have to drop the big $$ for the first race and go Kimi/Ferarri and maybe Kubica for my other driver. Maybe I'll get luck and finish 2nd again this season. Maybe even 1st!!

    Safe Picks for Australia 2007

Here's my take on safe picks for Australia. Knowing how crazy F1 is in the first few races, I recommend expecting these notes to be as reliable as F1 teams.

    Drivers
    Expensive
Massa - Hasn't changed teams. Ferrari is reliable.
Fisichella - Same as Massa. Remaining second driver from top team.
Both of these drivers should be contending for a win.

    Value Driver
DC - Excellent return driver. Going to score some points for sure.

    Chassis
    Expensive
Renault - Expect Fisichella to contend for a win. Any DNF from Kovalainen will be made up for by Fisi's points.
Honda - Two good return drivers. I expect them to finish in the points.

    Value Chassis
Toyotas - Same as Honda. Worth a point or two, and not so risky for a DNF.
Red Bull - Low risk of DNF. Nice and cheap.

    Engine
    Expensive
Renault - Reliable with good drivers, B team using this engine, Red Bull, not likely to be a DNF issue.

    Value Engine
Toyota - Two good drivers, hopefully reliable. Hold on though. Be careful of possible DNFs from Williams using same engine.

That's my take on it. Now to decide if to play it safe or go for gold and spend a bunch of money.

Hey. I never claimed I was right. That's just my theory. I wasn't even top ten in last year's league.
Maybe you want to undo the right your wronged?.. or other way around..

You know with Toyota's budget you'd think they would get it together. I'd like to say they could be a good lower $$ pick but I'm just not sold. Also I think DC needs to show what he's got this year or he may not be back another season. It's not all his fault but the trend for younger drivers may be too much for Red Bull to keep him around. Oh well. I still think I'm gonna toss away a few big bucks on race 1 and see where everyone shakes out. Maybe next race I'll have a better idea of who I think is going to be a reliable points winner for me

I think DC is will hang out in F1 as long as he wants with Red Bull. They're all about the publicity and DC is probably the best remaining spokesperson left in F1. Red Bull would be foolish to let him go.
I think he's well past his championship hopeful days, but he's still a good driver and a good face to represent a team.
He'll probably be my middle of the pack pick. Always brings the car home.

That's true about DC. I settled on Kimi and Hamilton, BMW and Ferrari as my picks. I'm just too hesitant to go with Ferrari as my engine supplier due to there being 6 in the field and 4 of them going to STR and Spyker. Trying to minimize my cost and risk this season but who knows.

Hehe, I'll give it another look now and see whether the wrong was right or the right is wrong

    Terrible Picks for Last Race!

My picks were terrible for the season opener!! I scored 1 point.
All my doubts about Kimi in his first race for Ferrari were misplaced. So much for my "return driver" theory.

mavericks picked the perfect race for the maximum 42 points. Amazing!

What am I going to do for Malaysia now? hmmm
