Bay: Microsoft Looking for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray to Fail!

I found an interesting question that was given to Michael Bay, director of many famous movies including Armageddon, The Rock, Pearl Harbor and Transformers

    The Question:

Why have you chosen this format? I and my friends all own PS3's and it?s easier and better to watch these films on our systems especially as the HDTV format players are too expensive here in the UK. I was looking forward to viewing the extra bonus material and quality that Blu Ray offers for the new release Transformers and I now can?t do that. Only having this system means that I am NOT going to buy Transformers or any of your future releases from you Mr. Bay or give into buying the HDTV system. i was also shocked to hear your decision you made so abruptly on your website.
    The Answer by Michael Bay:
What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth.
I hope they don't decide to take it off the site.

Never thought of that possibility. Guess it was a good idea to wait with buying a PS3

Interesting. I was told there was really no difference in picture quality between the HD-DVD and the Blue-Ray.

This goes back to the old Beta vs VHS, that goes back a loong way.

I've seen both, and granted, both are better to quality than typical DVD's.

But only one will survive, and for the same reason VHS beat out Beta. It's a taboo topic in some circles, but the success of either will depend on the porn industry. Which ever the industry gets ties to will be the one that carries on. Sad but true.

The thing about blu-ray is that it holds way more data than an HD DVD so the picture "should" be better. that or more content. Alot of it has to do with the way you output to your tv AND that tv's ability to display it.

I did not know that. All my home theater system is connected to my TV thru HDMI.

Ya, the name blu-ray comes from the blue laser used to read the disc. The different lasers (red, green and blue) are different size wave lengths. A red laser is "larger" and reads less data on the same size disc where as a blue laser is "smaller" and can more tightly compact the data giving you far more data on a disc.
