    Free-Hand Driving

There are cars that need no hands from the driver for it to run. It only needs the destination or the voice direction of the driver. I have only seen this type of vehicles on movies and TV shows. But are these vehicles already available today?

I Wish! I'd be buying one tomorrow. I'd love to put in where I want to go and then sleep again in the morning. I could get an additional 30 minutes of sleep before work.

It would take a lot of convincing to get me into one of those cars if it's just operated on voice command; I feel like the "driver" would need to give very specific degree measurements for turns, and sometimes very quickly to avoid accidents, and would I be able to listen to my music while driving? Doubt it...

Not that I am aware of and I am sure part of the reason for that is people who still think its okay to be chatting it up on the phone while driving.

Seriously what would happen if say someone said something wrong and the car freaked out? I would be a little worried myself.

I think there are some cars that park them selves or assist in parking, aren't there?

And I think I saw a feature that let's you do hand's free texting, both sending and receiving.

I think I read an article about the free-hand driving concept some years ago. The concept was described so detailed and comprehensively with some illustrations about the car design, etc. It looked like the car was ready to mass produce. So they haven't produced it yet?

I haven't heard about a car like that being mass produced yet.

And I bet Toyota's not likely to be offering one of those, considering they're still in damage control mode over their foot-operated accelerators.

I agree with you about Toyota. I really enjoy driving so personally I won't need a car with the technology. I would prefer the car manufactures focus on hybrid technology so that they can produce affordable hybrid cars.

I am not sure all of the tech is really there yet, or at least would be released to the general public. We have people now that still can not tell their left from right but are given licenses - I see issues with this one.

That's true, Creg. It's a bit scary to know that some running cars on the road are driven by those who are not eligible to drive. By the way, will you still need a driving license if your car drives itself?
