Races Lengthened Due To Better Mileage With Ethanol?

V8 Supercar races this year will increase from 100km to 120km. The reasoning does have to do with increased mileage with ethanol usage but goes a little further. Because of the increased mileage, cars can now run the full 100km without making a pitstop. In order to judge pitstop performance they lengthened the race.

Well the reasoning makes sense, it looks like they are just trying to even the playing field a little bit. And hey, the fans get a little bit more action out of the deal. It's a win-win as far as I can see.

I can definitely see the attraction of races that require pit stops.

I wonder if they considered smaller fuel tanks to get the same effect without lengthening the races?

Smaller tanks would mean less fuel which would not go over well with the suppliers of the ethanol and shorter races would not go over well with the fans so I suppose longer races make sense.
