    The History Mystery - Case 11 (F1) [CLOSED]

    This one is not very easy, but I know that there are quite a few of you out there that should be able to solve this mystery.

    The attached image was one of the first draft design for a circuit layout. However, this design was changed before it was implemented and only a small part of it remained.

    The circuit is no longer part of the F1 calendar today.

    1. What is the name of the circuit?
    2. Which corner remained unchanged when comparing the current layout with the original design proposed?
    3. When was the inaugural F1 race there?

    That's a tough one!

    My initial reaction was Suzuka, one corner looks very much like Spoon Curve, but Suzuka isn't on the calender anymore...

    Suzuka (and the Spoon Curve) is correct

    I was wrong in saying that it remains part of the F1 calendar (forgot that they took it out for 2007).

    Only the following question remains then: When was the inaugural F1 race there?

    The first race was 1987.

    It decided the Championship in favour of Nelson Piquet as his Williams team mate Nigel Mansell injured his back in practice and sat out the remainder of the season.

    The race was won by Gerhard Berger in a Ferrari.
